Backup 2.5 ships today and is a meaningful step forward for Netframe Backup users. The headline change is snapshot-based instant restore, restore a VM from a backup point in seconds, with the running VM lazy-loading data from the backup repository as required.
We have also rewritten the cross-cluster DR orchestration engine. Failover plans now compose from reusable recovery groups, support staged failover with arbitrary wait conditions, and emit structured events that integrate with external monitoring.
Other notable changes in 2.5:
- Retention policies now compose by tag, a single policy can apply different retention to "prod" and "dev" workloads.
- Application-consistent snapshots for PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle (Linux and Windows guests).
- New REST endpoints for backup catalogue queries and recovery testing.
- Improved deduplication ratios on encrypted volumes (typical gains of 1.4–1.8× over 2.4).
Backup 2.5 is a drop-in upgrade for 2.x deployments. Customers with active support can download the upgrade from the download portal today.
